An Activity Update - June 2022

NewsA Letter From the Director

Dear Friends,

A new season has begun here at Peniel. It’s a season of change. Sleeping buildings are being woken up, green grasses flourish again, and the endeavor of long awaited projects brings a renewed sense of excitement for the future. New roofs, strengthened structures, fresh paint and many new faces to join in our mission has brought a feeling of renewal to our beloved campus.

Seasons of change can also bring growing pains. God uses these to stretch us and challenge our faith. Many already know that the Frasier family, who have faithfully filled the roles of caretaker and office management, will be moving to Florida at the end of June. We are so grateful for their years of service and their sacrificial giving to our ministry. The Frasier’s commitment to Peniel 4 years ago came at a time of tremendous shifting. Their steadfast and consistent service brought stability and a firm platform for continued ministry even despite the challenges of the pandemic. Erin has been my right hand and she is one of my dearest friends. It’s an understatement to say that the Frasiers will be deeply missed, but we cheer them on into the next adventure that God has planned for them. Join us in praying for great blessing as they faithfully follow God’s new leading.

In the midst of change, God’s faithfulness is the one thing that doesn’t change. His mercies are new every morning! His provisions are generous and timely! We will be welcoming the Hodges family to campus. Michelle Hodges has served as our camp nurse for several years and has volunteered on our management team. The Hodges will help with caretaking duties and are a wonderful addition to our team. Jess McBride, will take on the role of office management. She and her husband Scott live locally. Their four children have been very involved with our youth programs for years. We can’t be more thrilled with the way God has filled these vacancies. God is good!

As we head into the next season filled with change, both in the physical and in the spirit, I continue to hear the refrain, “And His love endures forever.” I feel this truth now more than ever. His plans are superior, and His way is perfect; always centered in love. May this same love bring positive change to each of your lives in the season ahead!

Sincerely,
Kristen Coltart

In the Works: A Maintenance Update

Campus has been buzzing with activity! Our “Raise the Roof” campaign has given us the provisions to put a beautiful new roof on Lakeview, the Meeting Hall and the Fish Shed. Additionally, we have rewired, reventilated, and put new fixtures and bedding in the Motel units. We have put in a new furnace at Lakeview, repaired the Chapel chimney, cleaned and painted the inside of the Lodge, and spruced up the grounds for summer visitors.

Our next big project is “Raising the Roof” to complete the Meeting Hall. We are still raising $8000 to complete the roof, then plan to seal the basement, repair the porch supports,  refloor and paint the interior.

It’s wonderful to see so much accomplished, and a large part of the success is due to the amazing volunteers who came for the work days, some even for the whole week! And to the faithful donors who continue to support our ministry. A special thank you to Tom and Cynthia Grunstra and John and Grace Ferris who lead the week beautifully! We are blessed by these friends old and new.

Times Are A Changin’

After four years of office, program and maintenance work, and many years of volunteer work preceding that, we are saying, “Goodbye” to the Frasier family. They are moving to Florida to start a new chapter in their lives. We will miss them and wish them many blessings on this new adventure. Evidence of their work and hearts for Peniel have been left all over this campus. So as we think of Dave on the mower and Erin making things more beautiful (and yummy), we will smile and give thanks. Be blessed, Frasiers!
And in come the McBrides! Jess will be taking over the management of the office and retreat coordination. Jess has been a volunteer at Peniel for many years. She comes to us with so many creative and organizational skills, but more importantly, she comes to us as a believer who has dedicated herself and her family to live for the honor of Jesus. We are looking forward to having the whole McBride/McCallum family around camp even more!
We would also like to welcome the Hodges to Lakeview. Michelle and Steve have been volunteers at camp for many years. Michelle is on our Management Team and been a nurse for many camps. Steve has often brought his construction expertise to our work days. We are so glad to welcome them to Peniel as residents to assist with grounds and programs. God certainly knows what he is doing here!
This winter we welcomed Andres and Rachel Cabrera to our youth ministry staff. The Cabreras are youth pastors at Church of the Nations and now are working with us to run our Teen M@tteRs program. We have met regularly this late winter and spring with our teens and look forward to seeing all that God plans to do through this wonderful couple to disciple our teens.

Prayer Council Updates

This fall and winter we warmly welcomed: Grace Ferris as our Prayer Council President, and both Tom Grunstra and Kimberlee Greenawalt Stimers as board members. Their history, expertise, and experience has already enriched our ministry. We are so thankful they answered this call that God put upon their hearts!

One Camper: $225        One Counselor: $400
